Anyway the masseur was Lucius and things were a bit awkward because they used to be rivals... and then Gibeon gets hard during the massage and Lucius is all "It happens all the time don't worry about it"

Ame has a bad dream and usually, he goes to his mother for comfort (not Gibe of course) but Mother's not there... yet he almost instinctively goes to his parents' room and wait

Gibe threatens Ame and tells him not to speak a word of it, and Luci tries explaining it away, but Ame can tell something is not right. He's not sure what that something is, but that should be Mother in bed with Father, not Mr. Lucius

Or, maybe Ame asks Hamber why Father and Mr. Lucius were in bed together (and mentions that they were naked, because to a kid that'd be odd) and Hamber's all "UM"

I like the thought that Ame asks him specifically. Perhaps Gibe was sleeping when Ame caught him in bed with someone else. And Ame would be too shy to ask his dad so he asks Hamber.

Ame trusts Hamber, because, well, his parents do, and he's scared because something is... wrong. Lucius is sleeping where Mother should be. That's Mother's side of the bed

Ame: I've never seen Mother hug Father, but Mr. Lucius... was sleeping while hugging Father... He had his arms around Father, like what Mother does with me...

Ame then goes back to his room, still not understanding anything

Perhaps she knew but since it's a marriage of convenience and Gibe potentially holds power over her and her fam, she was willing to keep quiet for the rest of her life. I do like the thought that she is scared of him. Or just the thought that Ame misunderstood his family. He thought they were happy together but they weren't really.

Yeah in my mind it's an arranged marriage kinda deal, Wife is aware Gibe isn't satisfied with her but she keeps quiet to protect Ame (and she wants him to have a comfortable life, so she knows not to stir up trouble)

Random thought that popped into my mind: Ame running away because the guilt's too much and his family is falling apart because of him and if he'd been a better son none of this would've happened... (Obviously that's not the case at all lol)

Anyway he ends up in a nearby park and while he's sitting on a bench trying not to cry (he's a big boy! Big boys don't cry!) he's approached by a weird young man with brown skin and white hair and some funny looking goggles

Man: What're you doing here all by yourself, kid?
Ame: I... ran away
Man: You too, huh?
Ame: ?
Man: It's probably not safe for you to be out here alone. You wanna hang out at my place for a bit? It's just 'round the corner. It's a mess, though!
Ame: Um... I'm not supposed to go with strangers...
Man: Ahaha! Yeah! 'Course you're not! Don't worry, I won't hurt ya. I understand, I also ran away from home, so...
Man: Name's Friede, by the way

Anyway Ame decides to trust Friede (he's not sure why, but it's better than going home) and they wind up at Frie's apartment which is... very, very small. And messy. There are clothes and papers everywhere

Frie offers Ame some hot chocolate ("It's just cheap instant stuff") and some instant noodles (Ame's never seen them before, they don't register as food to him initially). Ame declines the noodles but... hot chocolate sounds nice

Ame eventually tells Frie everything while sobbing his eyes out about how it's all his fault and how he's ruined his family and Frie's just like "Oh jeez" and doesn't know what to say because uh. It sounds like a disaster

Once Ame's finished talking, he's exhausted, so he ends up falling asleep. Frie decides to keep Ame at his place overnight, but he does contact the police in the morning (he hates cops, but he can tell Ame's from a rich family, so he decided he proooobably should try and get the kid home before things get nasty)

It's good stuff!! Ame will forever remember this meeting..

Things will get bad for his family afterwards but a stranger listened to him in the middle of all of this.

Ame going back to that park sometimes hoping to see Friede again but he's never there (Frie's too busy studying but he's also purposefully avoiding the park because he figured Ame might do that, and he really doesn't have any idea what he should say to the poor kid)

Ame telling Frie he walked in on his father in bed with another man where his mother should be and Frie assumes he means he saw them having sex (he didn't) and wonders if he should explain gay sex to Ame but immediately realises that uh no he absolutely should not

Many years will pass before they meet again probably.

I do like the thought that Ame grows to distrust men in relationships and expects the worst... cheating is a bad thing to mention around him.

Yes! I think regardless of this, Ame would consider trust to be the most important part of a relationship. And someone breaking that trust and betraying their partner is despicable to him

When he's older he does understand the nuances more and knows his parents' divorce wasn't his fault, but... he still feels some guilt since he did cause a few of their fights (Imo he'd stay with Gibe as Gibe heir, which is what his mother wanted for him, but Ame always wished he'd been able to go with his mother instead)

And absolutely, Ame values trust above anything else.

Imagine him and Frie reuniting somehow when they are older (perhaps Ame remembers him but Frie doesn't) and Frie is typically the kind of man he hates. Flirts with others etc.

I feel like Ame would terrible and conflicted and wouldn't be able to trust Frie for a long time bc everything about him is bad news to Ame. Careless and flirting with anyone. Like it just brings back bad memories to him. He can't trust someone like that easily... even if he somehow loves him.

Yeah, definitely. Ame hates that he has feelings for Frie, considering Frie is a playboy (not really, Frie's just overly nice to everyone so his interactions come across as flirting). It's not even that Frie's a man. It's that he's a very specific type of man

I love the irony of Luci not remembering Ame... Ame tries to behave around him but he's very tempted to punch Luci in the face and yell at him about ruining his parents' marriage (Imo Ame never finds out that his mother was aware of the affair)
