FrieAme AU where Friede's a paediatrician and Amethio's a terminally ill inpatient. Friede's in charge of Amethio's care and keeps telling himself not to get attached but oops Friede gets attached. So does Amethio. Contains main character death, obviously!

In my mind Gibeon's a very hands-off dad who never paid much attention to his kids except when necessary and at some point towards the end of Amethio's life he has the very belated realisation that he's probably never even once held his younger son (And if he has, he doesn't remember)

That's stuff for their mother and nannies to do, not their father, so Gibeon never really thought of it as something a father needed to do

Except that's an excuse and the real reason is that when Gibe first held Spi when Spi was a newborn, he was hit with an overwhelming realisation of how small, vulnerable, defenceless and fragile a baby is and he was terrified he'd somehow end up hurting Spi since he didn't know what he was doing... and from then on he never held his children again

So after his last meeting with Ame in the hospital, Gibe realises he probably never held him and for reasons he can't explain to himself he suddenly wants to

He goes and sees Ame again (even though he'd treated their previous meeting as their final one) and gives him the world's most awkward dad hug he can but Ame's hardly conscious by that point so Gibe has no clue if Ame's even aware of it

And once again he's struck by how small, vulnerable, defenceless and fragile his son is - but this time it's because his son's on the verge of death rather than birth

Anyway Gibe tries to become closer to Spi after Ame's death but neither of them know what they're doing (they both try their best though)

Thinking about Gibeon realising he has no idea how to comfort/reassure Amethio... He doesn't even know if his son can hear him, or if he'll care if Gibeon does anything, but he wants to at least... let the boy know he's there

But he has no clue how to put those feelings into words and he's too scared to touch him, since he looks so fragile and Gibe fears he'll break
