FrieAme AU where Friede's a paediatrician and Amethio's a terminally ill inpatient. Friede's in charge of Amethio's care and keeps telling himself not to get attached but oops Friede gets attached. So does Amethio.

Thinking about some scenario in which Gibe & Spi come to the hospital to visit Ame but he's had a minor medical emergency and Frie's taking care of him elsewhere while one of the senior doctors figures out what should be done to help him
"[Me] Spi's really worried about Ame because it certainly doesn't sound good and he's apparently in quite a bit of pain, but Gibe's his usual emotionless self.

Spi wonders if Gibe cares about Ame's condition at all"
[Me] Frie manages to come and talk to them and says that Ame actually needs a (minor) procedure done (Idk in my mind it's some kind of internal blockage that they need to remove) but since he's underage, they need parental consent first
"[Me] Gibe looks at Frie like he's an idiot

Gibe: Haven't we already established that any necessary procedures are to be performed? I believe I made that clear when he first came here"
"[Me] Frie: That's the first I've heard of it, and, well, legally speaking, it's always good to check--
Gibe: But what if it's an emergency? Would you wait around for consent then? What if you cannot get a hold of me, or whoever else? Would you simply not operate on him?
Frie: I-In that case we'd just go ahead, but-"
"[Me] Gibe: So why is this any different?
Frie: ...
Gibe: You said it's minor, but clearly it's necessary enough that you're wanting to do it. Stop wasting your time talking to me, and tell whoever's in charge to get to work on him"
"[Me] Frie wants to either yell at Gibe or punch him in the face but he somehow manages to control himself.

Frie: Alright. Oh! Would you like me to pass on any messages to him? I'm not sure when he'll be aware enough to hear them, though...
Gibe: There's no need--
Spi: TELL AMETHIO that I hope he gets better soon
Frie: Sure : )"
"[Me] Frie leaves before Gibe can say anything else. Gibe sighs deeply and turns to Spi

Gibe: Spinel.
Spi: What? Am I not allowed to be concerned for my brother?
Gibe: How naïve are you?
Spi: Huh?
Gibe: You said you hope he ""gets better soon""... The entire reason this is happening is because he's NOT going to get better"
"[Me] Gibe: If anything, we should expect incidents like this to happen more frequently. They're a sign his body's truly starting to fail.
Gibe: There's nothing he can ""get better"" from, Spinel. Even if they operate on him today, something else will cause issues soon enough. And then another thing. And another."
[Me] Gibe: Surely you understand the meaning of something being "terminal". Do not give him false hope that he'll go back to feeling like he used to -- that's simply not going to happen
"[Me] Spi stares at Gibe in disbelief. All he wanted to do was express his sympathy for Ame. Nothing more than that. He certainly isn't expect Ame to be cured or anything.

He just meant that he hopes Ame's pain will subside. Is even something like that considered ""false hope""?

Spi doesn't understand his father at all"
"[Me] With that, Gibe gets up and starts walking towards the exit. Spi quietly follows behind, wondering how someone can be so... heartless

Spi decides he'll just come to the hospital alone next time, like he's mostly been doing. At least he can be kind to Ame when Gibe's not around"
[Redacted] Gibe, why are you like this...
[Me] It's almost like he's the one who can't accept the truth : ) (And also he doesn't want to get in the way)
"[Me] I was also thinking that Spi calls him out and starts questioning him before they leave, and since they're causing a bit of a scene Landau shows up and tells them to shut the fuck up (but politely)

Spi takes the opportunity to ask if they can wait for Ame near the operating theatre and Lan's like ""Hm yes that seems like a good idea"""
[Me] Lan saying something along the lines of "Most patients appreciate having someone there waiting for them when they wake up from a procedure, as they're often disoriented and can feel lonely and confused if they don't have a familiar face to talk to" while looking directly at Gibe who is... Not Amused
[Me] Gibe reluctantly agrees that okay FINE they can wait and see Ame when they're able to but Spi needs to hold his tongue and stop being disruptive (for, y'know, raising his voice at Gibe in a public place)
[Redacted] Gibe would feel so awkward waiting there... he has other stuff to do supposedly...
"[Me] Yes... He also wants to scold Spi but that's not something to do in public.

Gibe should be at work. He has meetings and whatnot. But instead he's waiting around at the hospital and who knows if they'll even get to see Ame (Gibe reckons Ame will be too out of it to even know anyone's there)"
[Me] Spi can tell Gibe's in a bad mood so he's a good boy and shuts up (he doesn't want Gibe to yell at him)
[Redacted] Gibe wants to avoid Ame so bad it's not even funny.. man, get a grip!!
[Redacted] Gibe wants to use time efficiently but huh
[Me] They wait around for a couple of hours and then are allowed to see Ame. Spi goes in first, and Ame's really tired and Spi's unsure if Ame recognises him
"[Me] Spi: Hey. You feelin' okay?
Ame: ...?
Spi: It's Spinel. We were here to visit you anyway, so...
Ame: S-Spinel?
Spi: Yeah. How're you doing?
Ame: ...I'm... okay...
Spi: That's good : )"
"[Me] Spi sits next to Ame who seems to be slowly regaining his awareness.

Ame seems so... vulnerable, even more so than usual, and it's really unsettling. But Spi knows he has to deal with it"
"[Me] Ame: Oh... It's not... sore anymore...
Spi: They probably gave you some super strong pain relief after the surgery
Ame: Right... Friede said they were going to... do that...
Ame: Is Friede there?
Spi: Uh. Not sure. D'you want me to fetch him for you?
Ame: ...
Spi: You can say yes, lol
Ame: ...Yeah"
"[Me] Spi thinks it's cute that Ame's thinking about Frie as soon as he's lucid enough.

Spi leaves the room and finds that Frie's... talking to Gibe. Which can't be a good sign.

Except it turns out that Frie's just briefing Gibe on what went on with the procedure and explaining to him that Ame should be in much less pain etc"
"[Me] Gibe doesn't seem like he cares in the slightest, which annoys Spi, but he refrains from saying anything.

Spi: Hey, Doc
Frie: Oh? You're here too
Spi: Your princess has awoken from her slumber and is looking for you : )
Frie: .....Um
Spi: Haha, I'm kidding. Amethio does want to talk to you, though"
"[Me] Frie gives Spi a ""Don't fucking joke about that in front of your father"" look before he excuses himself and goes to see Ame

Spi sits back down next to Gibe"
"[Me] Spi: He says he's not sore anymore
Gibe: Well, that was the point of the surgery
Spi: ...Aren't you going to see him? That was the point of us waiting here
Gibe: I will once his doctor's done talking to him"
"[Me] Frie returns a few minutes later and takes Gibe to Ame's room. Ame's much more alert now, although he's still tired

Ame: ...Father!
Gibe: [Nods]
Ame: Um, this...
Gibe: Calm down. It's not as if you had any say in the matter. Your body is starting to fail on you, so this was necessary.
Ame: ..."
[Me] Gibe tells Ame he should follow his doctor's advice and behave so that he doesn't exhaust himself
[Me] Ame thinks Gibe's criticising him but really, even Gibe's slightly concerned that Ame needed an emergency procedure done
"[Me] But Gibe knows Ame's still recovering so he doesn't want to stay too long.

Gibe: I shall leave you to rest. Spinel and I have been here since this morning, and I should get back to work
Ame: Y-You... You didn't have to...!
Gibe: Well, your brother thought we did have to, actually
Ame: ...
Gibe: I shall visit again once things have settled"
[Me] And with that Gibe leaves, not even saying goodbye or offering Ame any comfort or reassurance
[Me] Spi pops back in for a minute to tell Ame he hopes he feels better soon and that even if Gibe doesn't care, Spi himself does and that he'll worry about Ame enough for both of them
[Redacted] Man, the way Gibe just manages to stress Ame out with his mere presence and never gives him any comforting words <3
[Redacted] Spi is good (but don't joke about Ame being Frie's princess ww)
[Me] (It's okay, Gibe's so obtuse he wouldn't know what Spi even meant lol)
"[Me] Everyone to Gibe: You should spend more time with Ame!
Gibe: Why though
Gibe: [Spends time with Ame]
Ame: I am Uncomfortable
Gibe: Can I leave yet"
[Redacted] I am suddenly thinking about how Gibe probably never made Ame smile once in his life
[Me] Nope... I think even baby Ame would be intimidated by Gibe. And Gibe barely spent any time with him back then, so he never learnt how to feel comfortable around his father
"[Me] But you did make me think of something where Gibe comes to visit Ame in hospital and when he's in the waiting area he sees Frie wheeling Ame back to Ame's room and Ame is... smiling. He looks strangely happy while he's talking to Frie.

Gibe's never seen him make that expression before"
"[Me] As soon as Ame notices Gibe, all traces of happiness vanish from his face.

Which Gibe doesn't understand. He's never told Ame he's not allowed to smile or be happy... So why is Ame acting like he's hiding his emotions?"
[Redacted] I feel like Ame would smile more easily around Frie here, which would surprise Gibe if he ever saw it since he doesn't know how Ame looks like when he smiles
"[Me] Yeah, that's it exactly! Gibe's never seen Ame smile and the fact that he's smiling while he's talking to his doctor of all people confuses Gibe.

And Gibe also can't understand why Ame tries to hide it from him (maybe it's because you keep punishing him for openly showing his emotions, dude)"

[Me] He does! And maybe it makes Gibe realise that he can't remember the last time he smiled...
