FrieAme AU where Friede's a paediatrician and Amethio's a terminally ill inpatient. Friede's in charge of Amethio's care and keeps telling himself not to get attached but oops Friede gets attached. So does Amethio.

Ame being a complete mess and his body constantly failing on him and he can't do anything independently anymore and it's super humiliating especially since he can't even clean himself up afterwards either and he has to rely on Frie for help... It's the worst and he hates it and he hates himself so much and--
[Me] I feel like Ame would be super opposed to having a catheter put in even if Free, like, gently suggested it (it would solve a lot of his issues and there's nothing to be ashamed of about it etc) because to Ame it's as though he's admitting defeat and giving into the universe and he refuses to do that
"[Me] Frie: Okay. So. You have three options here. We're doing something about this.
Ame: Who's ""we""?
Frie, ignoring him: First is the catheter, which you've already said no to. Second is just using a bedpan but you've also refused to do that the entire time and I doubt you're gonna start now"
"[Me] Ame: ....Do I want to hear the third option?
Frie: Probably not
Ame: Is it just tying me down to a toilet and leaving me there until I die?
Frie: Uh, that's kinda extreme. And also illegal. We'd get in a whole lotta trouble if we did that kinda thing
Ame: I thought you'd stopped caring about legality when it came to me
Frie: Hey--"
"[Me] Ame: What's your not-so-illegal idea, then, Dr. Friede?
Frie: [Cough] Er. Diapers.
Ame: Absolutely fucking not
Frie: Yeah I thought so"
"[Me] Ame very reluctantly agrees that the least embarrassing option is the catheter but he's still apprehensive and like. That's something going in somewhere gross. Even if it's a common medical thing it's still weird to him

Frie can't blame Ame for being put off by the idea"
[Me] Frie talks to Gibe the next time he visits in private about Ame's ongoing issues and Gibe's like "He's your patient just make him do it" and Frie still cannot understand why Gibe has no sympathy for his son
"[Me] Gibe: Just force him to
Frie: Uh, no. That's a violation of a lot of things, including consent
Gibe: Surely that no longer applies if it's objectively going to improve his situation and he's simply being a nuisance about it
Frie: (Does this man not understand what ""consent"" means? Holy shit he's even worse than I thought)"
"[Me] Gibe: As his father, I want you to always follow what you believe to objectively be the best course of action to make things easier for both you and for him. If he disagrees, force him to obey you.
Frie: Uh--"
"[Me] Gibe: He's never been good at following instructions or listening to others. But if you're direct and spell it out for him multiple times, there's a chance it might eventually get through that thick skull of his

Frie's never been so mad at a parent before. Sure, he's gotten annoyed at general incompetence and people's inability to understand things, but..."
"[Me] Ame's not an idiot. He's not nearly as useless as his father makes him out to be whenever he talks about Ame. Frie knows this.

Ame's just a kid. He's a kind, stubborn, determined, passionate, sincere, smart kid. Why is his father being so horrible about him?"
[Me] Especially since Ame's sick. Like, really sick. And he's dying, too. Does his father not understand that? He has to know that Ame's dying, right?
"[Me] Frie: You... You know he's not doing any of this on purpose, right? He has no control over his body anymore
Gibe: All the more reason to force him to cooperate. Otherwise you and your colleagues will be wasting your time constantly cleaning up his... messes"
"[Me] Gibe: Stop being so soft. It's in his best interests to obey his doctor. I'm afraid you're being far too lenient with him
Frie: ..."
[Me] Frie: Wow. Just wow. Okay. So that's how you see it. You're saying that I'm being too nice by respecting his wishes? I suppose it's never occurred to you to actually listen to what he wants, so maybe this is news to you, but if I just forced my patients to comply with what I thought was the best for them, that would be illegal
"[Me] Gibe: And why is that?
Frie: Y'know. Consent. They have a right to say no to medical procedures and even medical advice.
Gibe: Technically they do not
Frie: Excuse me?
Gibe: Amethio himself is still a child. LEGALLY SPEAKING, the ones who make those decisions are that parents. I am fully aware of how the law works, Doctor."
[Me] Gibe: And I believe it's written on Amethio's file, because we had this discussion when he required that minor procedure a few weeks ago, that any medical intervention deemed necessary is to be carried out and is automatically consented to
"[Me] Gibe: I would have assumed that minimising frequent, ongoing incontinence issues would fall under that category, since surely doing so is in Amethio's best interests...
Gibe: But perhaps I am mistaken in my understanding of your policies"
"[Me] Frie: And I would have assumed that a father would at least ATTEMPT to show sympathy towards his dying son
Frie: But perhaps I am mistaken in my understanding of your parenting"
[Me] Frie's boiling with rage. He wants to scream at Gibe. He wants to throw his clipboard at the man and punch him and tell him that he's being shitty and that Ame is a sweet boy who's just trying his best given the horrible circumstances...
"[Me] If Frie were younger, perhaps he would lash out at Gibe. Perhaps he would punch him.

Instead, Frie forces himself to hold back. He can't risk his job. Not by getting into a physical altercation with someone like Gibe, who could easily end Frie's career in seconds..."
"[Me] Gibe seems to take a second to understand what Frie's saying to him, but when he does, he glowers at Frie with an expression of pure and utter hatred

In that moment, Frie loses all desire to stand up to Gibe. He's truly... terrifying"
"[Me] All the words Frie wanted to say... All the things he wanted to call Gibe out on... just vanish

Frie's speechless. He's never been so mad at someone, nor has he ever been so frightened of someone"
"[Me] Gibe glares at Frie, his eyes full of rage

Gibe: I believe it would be in your best interests to keep your mouth shut, Doctor"
"[Me] He speaks so calmly, his voice devoid of all emotions, and yet it's more unnerving than if he had shouted

Frie's frozen in place"
"[Me] Gibe: Amethio is to listen to your instructions. You are to convey that to him. Do I make myself clear?

Frie feels as though there's some invisible force around him that makes him nod his head. He can't really explain it, but it's an odd feeling"
"[Me] Frie: Y-Yes, Sir...
Gibe: Good. In that case, I need to be on my way
Frie: Right. Um. Uh...

All Frie needs to do is give his usual, casual ""Thanks for coming by!"" farewell like he always does, but he finds himself unable to speak properly"
[Me] Gibe simply gives Frie a single, uninterested nod, turns around, and briskly leaves
"[Me] As soon as Gibe's gone, Frie feels an immense sense of relief. Like a huge pressure's been lifted.

He's never met someone with that kind of aura before. He can't help but be almost... impressed"
[Me] Frie knows he should go back to Ame's room, but he needs to calm down first. He's rather shaken, even though Gibe didn't actually hurt him at all
"[Me] So instead he heads off to the staff bathroom for a while and just sits there

And at some point Frie realises he started crying. He's shaking a lot, too, even though Gibe's long gone"
"[Me] He finally understands why Ame's always so on edge around his father. Why Ame gets super withdrawn whenever Gibe speaks to him.

When Frie finally returns to Ame's room, the first thing he does is give Ame a hug"
"[Me] Ame: What the hell are you doing?
Ame: What if my father sees us?!
Frie: Nah. He's gone home
Ame: ...Oh
Frie: ...Just... let me stay like this for a while
Ame: Did he... do something to you?
Frie: Nah. He just got a bit mad at me, that's all
Ame: ...
Frie: Your dad's real scary, y'know?
Ame: Oh. I'm... more than aware"
[Me] Frie declares he's okay now, he just needed to calm down after Gibe got mad at him, and he should be off to check on the other patients
"[Me] But before Frie gets off the bed, Ame tugs on his arm. Frie looks down at him

Frie: What's up?
Ame: ...

Ame hesitates for a moment before he leans up and kisses Frie. Frie's heart skips a beat when it catches him off guard"
"[Me] Ame: I-I know what it's like when he gets really angry, so... so this is the least I can do...
Frie: [Smiles] Thank you. I appreciate it!
Ame: ...Y-You better!"
"[Me] Ame: Anyway, knowing you, you're probably late. Get moving
Frie: [Glances at his watch] Ah shit! I am! See ya later!
Ame: [Sigh] Honestly...

Ame watches as Frie runs out of the room"
[Me] Ame: Father... What did you say to him...?
[Me] Idk where I was going with this I just like the idea of Frie trying to stand up to Gibe and Gibe shutting him down with A Single Look and scaring Frie shitless
"[Me] Frie: [Talks back to Gibe]
Gibe: I don't fucking think so
Frie: You're right actually I'll stop immediately"
