FrieAme AU where Friede's a paediatrician and Amethio's a terminally ill inpatient. Friede's in charge of Amethio's care and keeps telling himself not to get attached but oops Friede gets attached. So does Amethio.

Maybe at the hospital they always celebrate a patient's birthday. Especially in the ward Ame's in, since it very well could be that kid's last ever birthday.

Usually they have a lunch together with everyone who's able to attend. If the weather's nice they have a picnic. Often the child's family show up, too.
"[Me] Ame never attends any of the other kids' parties. He's several years older than most of them, and he also isn't a social person to begin with.

But Frie still invites him every time. Ame's sure Frie's aware he'll turn it down, so he doesn't really get why Frie bothers.

There's nothing special about birthdays anyway"
"[Me] Even still, Ame can't help but wonder if Frie's gonna ask him about his own birthday. If he'd want to have one of those stupid lunches with everyone.

It's February, so there's no way it'd be a picnic. Not that Ame wants one.

He doesn't know these people. He knows the names of the nurses and some of the other staff. But not the kids."
"[Me] Several days before Ame's birthday, Frie does indeed bring up the subject

Frie: So. It's your birthday soon
Ame: And?
Frie: Would you like--
Ame: No. I'm not going to entertain you or the other adults by having one of those stupid, pointless parties."
"[Me] Frie: [Sigh] They're... not stupid, and they're not pointless. The kids love 'em. Your family could come by, too, and--
Ame: You know my father would never do that.

Gibe's visited a few times by this point. Frie might not have interacted with him that much, but surely he's picked up on the fact that Gibe doesn't care about Ame in the slightest"
"[Me] Frie: Okay. What about your brother, then?
Ame: ...No. I... I don't want to spend my birthday with him. What would we even do together?
Frie: ...Then--
Ame: Before you ask, I don't have any friends. But you know that already.
Frie: ...[Groan]"
"[Me] Frie: How about those kids that came by a few months ago for their school project? Liko, Roy and Dot. Liko's asked me about you a couple of times, you know.
Ame: Why?
Frie: Uh. Because she feels sorry for you?
Ame: ...Why, though? I... wasn't exactly nice to her
Frie: Does she need a reason to care about others?"
"[Me] Ame: ...
Frie: Look. You can just say no. They've got no clue it's your birthday. But they're good kids. They'd be happy to keep you company for the day.
Ame: ..."
"[Me] Ame sighs deeply. Frie can't be this dense, surely. Surely he's being like this on purpose...

Ame: As it happens, I would much rather spend time with you than with three people I don't know anything about.
Frie: Hey now. You spend every day with me. I think you should also spend some time with people your own age, y'know"
"[Me] For some reason, Ame feels like he's going to cry. Why is Frie rejecting him? They're dating, right? Frie said he liked Ame back. And they did all that stuff at New Year's too...

Ame: Do you not... You know what date my birthday is, right?
Frie: ...Yeah?"
"[Me] Frie: It's the 14th
Ame: And what day is that?
Frie: Like, day of the week?
Ame: No, you idiot. It's Valentine's Day. Of COURSE I'd rather spend that day with YOU!"
"[Me] Frie: ...O-Oh
Ame: Or were you lying to me when you said you liked me? Did you touch me like that just to placate me? Have you forgotten that we're... we're...
Frie: Amethio?
Ame, completely red in the fact: W-We're b... b... BOYFRIENDS, right?! B-Boyfriends celebrate Valentine's Day together, don't they?"
"[Me] Ame: I-It's different to just... just spending time with you, and... and I just... I want...
Ame: I-I want to do b-boyfriend stuff with you, okay?! We don't do that every single day, so... I thought we could... um... y-you know..."
"[Me] Ame feels extremely childish for getting so flustered when he was the one who had mentioned Valentine's in the first place. And he was definitely sure of his feelings and his desires in terms of what he wanted to do with Frie

Frie would understand what he meant, right?"
"[Me] Ame turns his head away in shame, his face burning. He's shaking a little. He has no idea how people never get worked up talking about these things...

After several moments of silence, Frie laughs. Ame snaps his head up and glares at him.

Ame: WHAT?!"
"[Me] Frie: N-Nothing! It's just...
Frie: [Smiles] I love how seriously you think about these things. That's all
Ame: ...I'm not-
Frie: That's a compliment. You're always genuine with your feelings. I like that about you. A lot, in fact.
Ame: [Blushes even more] I... I kind of have to be. If I'm not direct, you never understand what I'm on about..."
"[Me] Frie: ...Ah. Yeah. That's true too, huh? [Laughs]
Frie: Anyway. I get you. Valentine's, yeah?
Ame: ...W-What about it?
Frie: Let's spend it together. I'll see if we can go out for a couple of hours or something, but...
Ame: H-Hold on, won't they get suspicious?
Frie: Not if I say it's for your birthday
Ame: ...Right"
"[Me] Frie: Buuuut to make things seem less weird, you could always ask Liko and her friends to spend another day with you. Even if it's not your actual birthday. I think it falls on a Thursday anyway, so...
Ame: [Sighs] Fine. But on one condition
Frie: Oh? What would that be?
Ame: I... I want you to... to... k-kiss me. Like you did on New Year's."
"[Me] Ame often thinks back to NYE and New Year's Day that he spent at Frie's. How Frie kissed him so passionately and deeply. How they touched each other.

It may not have been exactly what Ame had yearned for (Frie was adamant that Ame wasn't up for that part physically) but... it was the closest he was going to get.

And it was more than enough to satisfy him"
"[Me] Frie: Just the kissing?
Ame: ...I... I assume you're going to tell me I'm too weak to do anything intimate with
Frie: [Chuckles] I mean, you... really are. But I'll do what I can, okay?
Ame: What the hell does that mean?
Frie: You'll have to wait until the 14th to find out! [Winks]

"[Me] Ame leans forwards, grabs Frie's collar, and kisses him. It's not as deep as Frie's kisses, but Ame doesn't care. He just wants to get his point across.

Ame: You know me. I'm impatient. You better keep your promise, Friede! [Smirks]
Frie: Hah! You bet! [Grins back]"
[Me] Anyway they have a lot of fun on Ame's birthday probably. Both intimately and non-intimately
"[Me] Roy, a few days later: Hey so what did you and Dr. Friede do on your birthday?
Ame: [Blushes thinking about it] We... We went out for lunch
Roy: Why are you getting embarrassed about that?
Ame: S-Shut up! I'm not!
Roy: But you're blushing?
Ame: ...S-Shut up!
Lk: Roy, leave him alone
Roy: I was just asking!"
"[Me] Ame: I-It's... It's none of your business... We just... Went out for lunch and... A-And nothing else! Absolutely nothing else, okay?!

Lk: Aw, c'mon, Dr. Friede's not that sort of person! And anyway, it was Amethio's birthday! That's why they went out!
Dot: Seriously?"
"[Me] Lk: Seriously what?
Dot: No, like, he's clearly getting all shy 'cuz he's thinking about the naughty stuff they did that day lol
Lk: UM... T-That's kinda...
Roy: Naughty stuff?! What naughty stuff? You mean like stealing something?"
"[Me] Dot: Holy shit you guys are really...
Dot: I mean like. Kissing.
Roy: HUH?! You're not 'sposed to do that with an adult!
Lk: I'm telling you, Dr. Friede would never--
Dot: Okay. So why's he looking like he wants to implode from embarrassment? [Points at Ame]"
"[Me] Ame's bright red. And it's not just embarrassment.

He's also terrified. If these three have figured out his relationship with Frie, what's stopping them from going to an adult about it? They could get Frie in trouble. They could have Frie taken away from him.

Even though Ame was the one who insisted they did those things..."
"[Me] Lk: ...A-Are you okay?
Ame: We... We did nothing else...
Roy: Did Friede do something bad?
Ame: NO! He didn't do anything. He really didn't. He never would. Don't... Don't accuse him..."
"[Me] Dot: Dude. I was kinda joking?
Ame: What part of it's a joke? If he really did do something like that, that'd be a crime, you know. And rest assured, I would report him immediately if he ever attempted anything
Dot: Well, that's good to hear, at least
Lk: See? I told you...
Dot: Idk, can you blame me? He's kinda shady"
"[Me] Roy: He is?
Lk: I-I mean I get where you're coming from, but...
Ame: No, he's not. He's not suspicious or anything. He's just... well, stupid's not the right word. He's smart, so...
Dot: You mean he's a bit dense?
Ame: Yes. That's it exactly. He's too dense to be someone to be wary of"
"[Me] Ame: Trust me. I spend time with him pretty much daily. He's never done anything. I wouldn't still be in this place if he did.
Roy: But why were you blushing, then? I don't get ANY of this!
Lk: That's okay, Roy, you really don't need to...
Dot: Yeah lol it's better if you don't"
"[Me] Later when the three kids are heading back, Dot pulls Lk aside

Dot: So. He has a HUGE crush on Friede, right?
Lk: Ah. You noticed it too, huh? I wondered about that the first time we met him, but he's definitely... Well, he cares about Friede a lot. I know that much
Dot: Wow. Being in love with your doctor. That kinda sucks"
"[Me] Lk: I certainly don't envy him...
Dot: And like, he's... gonna die, right? That must make it worse. He doesn't even get a chance. He won't be able to ever get together with Friede anyway... Yikes.
Lk: I do believe Amethio that Friede's never hurt him. I think he's just a bit shy when it comes to talking about Friede at all. M-Maybe..."
"[Me] Lk: I don't really understand boys, but... I think they probably fall in love the same way we do.
Dot: Eh. Who knows? He definitely likes Friede though lol
Lk: Oh, absolutely"
[Me] Meanwhile Roy's already forgotten about it because he really doesn't care
[Me] Ame didn't get the impression that Lk or Dot would actually go around accusing Frie of being inappropriate with him, so he's not all that worried. If anything, he's annoyed at himself for being so fucking obvious that both of them were able to pick up on his feelings for Frie immediately
[Redacted] Oh no, Ame almost got Frie in trouble because he is too easy to read! If they found out and Frie would have been investigated because of him, how would he have lived with himself!
"[Me] Dot would feel pretty bad lol. She really didn't think Frie was like... a predator or anything. She just wanted to tease Ame a bit.

But Ame's also a lot more vulnerable than he was when they last saw him, so imo they'd find it hard to suddenly change how they interact with him"
[Me] Ame still has a little bit of his prickliness left but he's much less resilient by this point. I think Lk would be the only one of the 3 kids to pick up on that, though

As much as I keep making him suffer in this AU, I really can't see his relationship with Frie getting found out? Except by Ame's family who by that point don't care lmao"
