Modern-day hospital AU featuring doctor Friede and terminally ill patient Amethio. WIP.

Summary

Friede is a pediatrician at the Saint Asagi Children's Hospital, where he mostly looks after kids with terminal illnesses or those who have to stay in hospital long-term. One day, he gets assigned to be the doctor of Amethio, a teenage boy who has just been diagnosed with a rare terminal illness. Amethio's cynical, cold personality leaves a deep impression on Friede, and he's determined to get through to his patient and make Amethio's final stage of his short life as enjoyable as possible.

However, what Friede doesn't know is that Amethio has many reasons for putting up an impenetrable fortress of walls around his heart that extend far beyond his physical health issues. But Friede is the type of person who has no idea when to give up, so he remains adamant that he will slowly get closer to Amethio — a boy who comes across as extremely sad and isolated, to a very concerning degree.

And, in the process, Friede finds himself becoming more and more attached to Amethio, despite multiple warnings from his superiors that getting too close is a bad idea for everyone involved.

Amethio, meanwhile, keeps trying to push Friede away... but he begins to realise that the man is genuine. And might actually be kind of... enjoyable to spend time with.

This is the story of a doctor falling in love with a lonely, dying boy, and a severely damaged teenager who finally finds someone in the cold, hard universe that doesn't hate him for his mere existence.
