Lucius and Gibeon Chat in Rakua

Lucius saves Gibeon from his doom in Rakua and the two have a chat. Lucius manages to convince Gibeon to continue on without him.

Canon, so LuciRys mentions & discussions. Lucius knew Rystal was pregnant. Gibeon is NOT impressed when he finds out.

And then the earth gave out underneath him.

Right at the same time, there was a loud explosion above. He vaguely registered the sound of someone -- Rystal, he presumed -- screaming.

Gibeon closed his eyes and waited. He would inevitably die the moment he hit the ground. He knew that. Perhaps, however, it was what he deserved. After all, he'd endangered his friends, and Zygarde had betrayed him. He had nothing left.

Except... Gibeon realised, slowly, that he was no longer falling. In fact, something was grabbing onto him.

His head buzzing, Gibeon reluctantly opened his eyes again and looked upwards. The face that greeted him was one he had no right to see.

"...Lucius?" Gibeon croaked, quieter than he'd intended.
"GIBEON!" Lucius shouted back as a smile formed on his face. "Oh, thank goodness. Hold on, okay? I'll get you out of there!"
"...Leave me."
"Huh?"

Gibeon couldn't bear to look at his former friend any longer, so he turned his head away in shame.

"Let me die."
"I don't think so!" Lucius retorted as he started to haul Gibeon up to the surface. Gibeon didn't have the strength left in him to fight. "After all..."

As Lucius's face drew closer, Gibeon could see that Lucius was badly injured. His face was bleeding. His cloak was torn to shreds. His hair was a mess.

"You said it yourself, right? There's still so much to this world left to be discovered! You want to solve those mysteries, don't you, Gibeon?"

And yet, he was smiling. Grinning that stupid grin of his. Like Gibeon hadn't done anything to harm him.

Gibeon said nothing, but he used the little energy he had to give one final push towards the opening of the crevasse. Lucius pulled him out, and Gibeon crawled away from the hole and lay face-down, panting.

He heard Lucius lie down next to him.

"Why?"
"Why what?"

Gibeon didn't even have the energy to glare at Lucius.

"Why did you save me?"
"Because this journey isn't over."

He didn't know what to say. Lucius shouldn't want anything to do with him anymore.

"Are you... stupid?" Gibeon sighed.
"I mean, broadly speaking, yeah," Lucius laughed. "You only just noticed?"
"...But I... ruined everything. I destroyed everything. Why are you still here? You should have gone with Rystal." Gibeon found himself talking a lot quicker than he usually did. "What about your Pokemon? Most importantly, what about YOU, Lucius?"
"...?"
"Do you really... intend to stay here fighting those crystals?" Gibeon asked. "Alone?"
"Yeah, I do," Lucius replied. "Otherwise their power might escape Rakua. I can't let that happen. I don't want our precious world to be destroyed."

Gibeon forced himself to sit up. His head was spinning and he felt dizzy. He thought he might throw up. Everything hurt -- he wasn't sure how he hadn't realised how much pain he was in until then.

Lucius was sitting there, facing him. He was in a terrible shape. Scratches and cuts everywhere. He looked like he was about to collapse.

And yet he was smiling and talking as though he was perfectly fine.

"What about Rystal?" Gibeon asked. "You just... left her."
Lucius frowned. "Well... I know my Pokemon will take care of her. And Pagogo's protecting her, too. And... she's protecting our future."
"Your... future? What on earth are you talking about?" Gibeon wasn't sure if it was because he was exhausted or not, but Lucius wasn't making any sense.
"Rystal... Rystal's pregnant," Lucius replied in a shaky voice. "Which was why I tried to get us to go back. I didn't want anything happening to her. But since she escaped, well... hopefully she'll be safe."

Gibeon stared at Lucius in disbelief.

He'd always thought of Lucius as an idiot. Sure, when it came to Pokemon, he was in a league of his own in terms of skill and his ability to communicate with them and command them. Even Gibeon himself respected that. But with other humans? Lucius was completely and utterly hopeless.

"Fool!" Gibeon snarled. "You absolute FOOL!"
"G-Gibeon?" Lucius looked startled. "W-What's wrong?"
"You KNEW Rystal was carrying your child?" Gibeon's hands curled into fists as he grew angrier and angrier the more he thought about what Lucius had done. "And you LEFT HER? You ABANDONED HER?"
"...Well... if I didn't stay here, then--"
"Who's going to help her raise YOUR child?!" Gibeon shouted. "NOBODY! You should be there with her! It's a man's job to protect his woman and to provide her with safety and security so that she can focus on staying healthy and keeping the baby safe too! How is she supposed to cope with that on her own?! You utter MORON!"

There was more Gibeon wanted to say. Much, much more. But he was panting and running out of breath. And he knew Lucius would get the message.

"...I believe in her," Lucius said quietly. "Rystal is strong. She'll... she'll be okay. And she... she..."

All of a sudden, tears started to fall down Lucius's cheeks. He quickly hid his face in his hands as he shook.

"Rystal...!" he sobbed. "Rystal! I'm sorry! I'm so sorry! What was I THINKING?! Ugh... Rystal... Oh, Gibeon, you're right! I AM an idiot! I just... why did I...?"

Gibeon had never seen Lucius look vulnerable before. He never thought he'd witness the man outright weeping in front of him. But Gibeon couldn't fault Lucius for his reaction.

"...If this journey isn't over..." Gibeon mumbled, half to himself, "then... it doesn't end here."

With great effort, Gibeon managed to rise to his feet, although he wobbled as he stood up.

Lucius gazed up at Gibeon, his face stained with with a disgusting mixture of blood, mucous and tears. Gibeon grimaced at him.

Lucius forced a laugh as he, too, stood upright next to Gibeon.

"Right. This journey most definitely isn't over. It doesn't end here!" Lucius grinned broadly before his expression turned serious. "Gibeon... please, keep going. Keep the dream of the Explorers alive. We have so much left to accomplish. You, me, Rystal, our baby -- when they're old enough! -- and... anyone else who wants to solve the biggest mysteries of this vast, wonderful, and beautiful world that we live in."

Lucius extended his arm outwards, his hand in a fist. His glove was tattered and his arm guard had snapped in half.

"Let's do this, Gibeon!" Lucius said with a sense of pride and determination. "Even if I can't leave... you can find a way out of here, I'm sure. You can continue our journey -- our dream."

Gibeon put his hand on top of Lucius's. His own glove was extremely torn up as well.

"I will make sure... our dreams come true," Gibeon said tenderly. "I'll do whatever it takes."

The two men smiled at each other for a few moments before they nodded in understanding and drew their hands away.

"And Lucius..." Gibeon added.
"Yeah?" Lucius raised an eyebrow.
"I'll come back for you. One day I'll rescue you. I don't care how long it takes me. I'll return to Rakua, and I'll save you. So... wait for me. That's an order."

Gibeon startled as Lucius suddenly grabbed him and pulled him into a hug.

"Thank you, Gibeon," Lucius murmured. "Now..."

Lucius stepped back, ending the hug.

"You and Zygarde should try to work on finding a way out, yeah?"
"Zy....gar...de?"

Gibeon's partner had appeared. It looked injured itself, and it was still in its weaker forme.

"But you... you disobeyed me," Gibeon said in disbelief. "Why are you...? Do you... still accept me as you trainer...?"

Zygarde gave a single bark as it walked up to Gibeon. It stared at him with unwavering eyes, as if to say that it had already forgiven Gibeon's actions.

Gibeon took out Zygarde's Ball. He wanted to cry with relief.

"You can rest for now," he said with a nod. "Once you've recovered, we'll leave. Zygarde, return!"

Zygarde immediately went back in its Poke Ball without any complaints.

Gibeon brought the Ball up to his mouth and whispered, "Good work, Zygarde," before putting it back in his pocket.

And, some time after that, Gibeon and Zygarde managed to find a way out of Rakua, although by the time they left, Gibeon was feeling as though something was not quite right.

He kept hearing a very faint voice in his head. A voice that continuously said, "Lend us your strength... Help us prosper..."
